This is the description file for the JAWS - keyboard tutor game, JAWS.EXE.
The program is copyright (C) D.Gromov, 1993.
I have released this game as a SHAREWARE product in the USA and Canada. It
means that if you like this program and systematically use it, you should
pay a small fee - I ask for 5 US dollars. You will get no any benefits for
this fee, but this way you support me, the author of this excellent game,
and the idea of the SHAREWARE distribution. Please, send money on the
following address:
Alexei Doudkin,
6921 Westview Drive,
Delta, British Columbia,
V4E 2L7, CANADA
You can freely give this program to other people, provided the program and
this file are distributed not modified and together. Thank you for the
support.
Remember - you use this program on your oun risk. I am not responsible for
any damage or problems it causes or may cause to you or your computer!
Now - if you are still here - a few words about the game. You can run it
only on PCs equipped with a VGA adapter. I had problems running it on some
notebooks, but the game should work fine on most desktop IBM compatibles.
Program does not work properly if run under MS Windows 3.x, in DOS Prompt.
After you start the game (type "JAWS" at DOS prompt and press ENTER key), you
have the SHAREWARE banner. Read it, and then press any key to continue. You
are now at the menu of the program. You can press ESCAPE key for exit, if
you decided already to manage the payment.
Alternatively, you can start playing the game by pressing 'S' on the
keyboard. Keyboard appears at the screen bottom, and shark is starting it's
hunting. After a short pause (you can put your fingers on proper keys
during this time), when the coming fish reach the center of the screen, the
game begins. The task is to press a key corresponding to the symbol drawn
on the fish, before the fish is eaten by the shark. If you didn't change
setup, the key to be pressed is highlighted on the keyboard image. At
first, only three keys are used ('F', 'J', and the Space Bar). If you are
skilled (and lucky) enough to make no errors and complete the task, a new
cycle begins with two more keys added to the set of active keys. In case
you made any errors, you are back to the menu. During the game, you can
interrupt action at any time by pressing the ESCAPE key.
At the menu, you can change some options affecting the game action. To
change highlighted option, press LEFT ARROW or RIGHT ARROW key. To
highlight another menu item, press UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW key. Menu allows
you to switch on and off the sound; to have ('mark keyboard buttons' = ON)
or have not ('mark keyboard buttons' = OFF) letters drawn on the keyboard
image; to have a key to be pressed highlighted ('highlight key' = ON) or
not (OFF); to change number of active keys (in increments of 2) and the
game speed (in the range from Super Low to Super High). Well, the Fish and
the Shark are always here, they wait for the action!
I hope, the information provided is enough for using the program. I hope
you will enjoy it. And, probably, it will be useful for you? Once you have
comments or have foud a bug - feel free to contact the author at Internet
address DGRO@CHROMO.LGU.SPB.SU - I don't promise, but maybe I'll be able to
help.
Sincerely,
Dmitri Gromov.
